Rich Brown is the managing director of market data at Schonfeld, a multi-manager platform for quantitative, fundamental equity and tactical trading strategies. At Schonfeld, Rich is responsible for the market data sourcing function as well as the technology for the shared research environment which supports the various portfolio management teams. Prior to joining Schonfeld, he was managing partner at Semiotics, LLC, a boutique-consulting firm where he worked on a variety of projects primarily focused on information services, alternative data, and analytics. Such engagements included cyber security tool implementations and a crowd-sourced alpha development platform at two different hedge funds, analyzing private sector market opportunities for a defense company’s signal intelligence offerings, and various unstructured data analytics and data monetization projects. Rich also worked at a data science company on projects including consumer profiling and personalization solutions and bespoke data science engagements.

Prior to his consulting roles, Rich was the Global Head of Elektron Analytics for Thomson Reuters where he managed the strategy and P&L for a suite of software and data products targeted primarily at quantitative and event-driven trading clients.   In addition to the machine readable news and text analytics business for which he is most recognized, he also managed the Tick History data service, a high performance market data analytic engine, streaming & post trade compliance analytics, and a real-time data visualization partnership with Datawatch.

Rich has been widely quoted as a company spokesperson on big data, text analytics, and social media use for trading and investment strategies and has served on numerous occasions as both a panelist and moderator at industry events covering various financial services and big data topics.

Prior to Thomson Reuters, Rich co-founded and was the Chief Operating Officer at Foresight Research Solutions, LLC, a New York-based independent research firm. Rich began his career as a client manager for International Business Machines in New York where he managed the relationship and sales for major Fortune 500 clients. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management and International Business from The Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.  Linked-In Profile:
